今朝の通勤中のヘッドフォンからBill WithersのLovely Dayが流れ、思わず踊りだしたくなってしまった。理由は明らかで、同曲が採用されたGAPのCMで若者が奔放に踊る様が脳裏に焼き付いているから。もう20年も前のCMだが、曲も映像も古さを感じさせない。
I-TunesにはBill WithersのオリジナルのほかRobert Glasperのカバーがプレイリストに入ってる。こちらはWithers本人が「ロバート、お前俺の曲をカバーするんだってな、ハハハハハー（爆）」のイントロからボコーダーのボーカルが入りカッコいい。ヒップホップ畑にも無数にサンプリングされているあのベースライン、思わず体が動き出してしまう。
もう一つ、Kirk Franklinのカバーもなかなか良い。こちらは歌詞までゴスペル仕様にリバイズされていて、オリジナル歌詞中の「you」はガールフレンドを指すのに対しこちらは「神」を指している。

このほか、TAKE6、Bodyguardのサントラに入ってるバージョン（名前忘れた）など音源はあるがやはり本家が一番。1978年の Menagerie に収録されている。何となく春を待ちわびている北海道に太陽の光を注いでくれそうな、そんな気配を感じる曲だ。

この間、車を走らせていたらラジオから風見しんごの「涙のTake a chance」が流れ、これも思わず体をくねらせそうになってしまった。中坊の時分にサッカー部仲間で流行り、へんてこなブレイクダンスを皆で踊っていた。この曲を聞くと、段ボールを敷いて、その上をくるくる回りたくなる衝動に駆られてしまう（笑）
